适合孕妇及哺乳期妈妈饮用

During pregnancy, it’s necessary to be more careful regarding what you (and your baby) are drinking… As little as 200mg of caffeine a day (approximately 2 mugs of instant coffee) has been linked to complications during pregnancy and therefore, according to many GPs, it’s advised to avoid coffee – as well as teas like green and Ceylon tea that are high in caffeine.

Rooibos is perfect for pregnancy as not only is it naturally caffeine-free, but also contains powerful antioxidants that can only benefit you and your baby.

In fact, drinking rooibos has been proven to have a relaxing effect on the mind and body, and even aids a good night’s sleep. Drinking rooibos also has the beneficial effect of improving digestion, relieving nausea and preventing constipation. It is also low in tannin and therefore doesn’t hinder the absorption of iron – which is important during pregnancy.

It’s good for your new-born baby too…

For generations, Rooibos tea has been used among South African mothers as a supplement to breast-milk due its ability to cure and soothe new-born babies. This was discovered accidentally in 1968 when Dr Theron, a desperate mother with a crying baby in her arms, searched for a way to warm her baby’s bottle. She added some warm Rooibos tea to it and fed it to her baby. To her surprise, her baby stopped screaming and went to sleep peacefully . She went on to help literally hundreds of colicky and allergic babies using Rooibos tea as a supplement to both breast, formula or cow’s milk. She chronicled her experiences in her book: “Allergies: an amazing discovery”.
